HealthGrades Awards Shine Spotlight on Several Areas

For the fifth straight year, Northwest Community Hospital has received the 2009 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence™, achieved by just 5 percent of all hospitals in America. HealthGrades is the nation's leading independent healthcare ratings company. According to HealthGrades, patients admitted to a hospital that has achieved this designation are, on average, 27 percent less likely to die and 8 percent less likely to suffer from a major complication.

Northwest Community Hospital also has received several other 2009 HealthGrades quality designations, which include Superior Clinical Performance in Cardiac Care, Stroke Care Excellence Award, Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award and Gastrointestinal Surgery Excellence Award.

100 Top Hospitals for Cardiovascular Care 2008

For the fourth time in the past decade, Northwest Community Hospital was recognized nationally by Thomson Reuters, a global healthcare information company, for being one of the top heart hospitals. The study examined the performance of 970 U.S. hospitals by analyzing clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with heart failure and heart attacks, and those who received coronary bypass surgery and angioplasties. NCH has earned this distinction in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2008.

Readers' Choice Top Hospital for Retention Efforts

Nurses throughout the Chicago area selected Northwest Community Hospital as a "Top Hospital for Retention Efforts" in ADVANCE for Nurses magazine. The hospital earned the distinction in 2008 for demonstrating many of the workplace components necessary in making a nurse's job fulfilling.

Magnet™ Recognition for Nursing Excellence

Only 3 percent of healthcare organizations across the country have earned Magnet™ status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and Northwest Community Hospital is one of them.

The four-year designation, received in 2006, is the highest level of recognition nursing services can obtain. Magnet™ status is awarded to hospitals that exhibit exemplary patient outcomes and satisfaction, have impressive nurse-to-patient ratios, and attract and retain the best nursing staff.

100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare

Northwest Community Hospital was ranked No. 36 among the nation's best healthcare employers by Modern Healthcare, the industry's leading magazine. The announcement was made in October 2008 after nearly 240 healthcare companies applied for the honor. The purpose of the Modern Healthcare survey is to promote progressive human resources strategies, and support employee retention, patient satisfaction and economic development.

NCH is the only Illinois Organization Selected for 2009 National List of “Best Companies to Work For”

For the third time in four years, Northwest Community Hospital has been selected as one of the best employers in the nation. The February 2, 2009 issue of FORTUNE magazine lists Northwest Community at No. 77 among the “100 Best Companies to Work For” in America.

Primary Stroke Center Redesignation

In 2008, Northwest Community Hospital maintained its Primary Stroke Center designation through the Joint Commission, the nation's predominant standards'-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. The two-year certification recognizes NCH for having the critical elements to improve stroke outcomes.

Health and Human Services Medal of Honor

Northwest Community Hospital received this award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2007 for its organ donations through the Gift of Hope. NCH is one of only 392 hospitals across the country to earn this distinction.

Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence

Northwest Community Hospital obtained this designation in 2007 from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the largest specialty nursing organization in the world, representing the interests of more than 400,000 critical care nurses.

JCAHO Seal

Northwest Community Hospital has earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® in 2006. Joint Commission is an independent nonprofit group regarded as the nation's predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare, evaluating 15,000 organizations and programs.
